Leafs: Game 7 Again...

Oh man, I got up at 4 a.m. for this???

The Leafs wasted a chance to close out the Bruins in six games on home ice, falling to the bad guys 4-2 in a game that began a little past 4 in the morning my time.

I had a decent night's sleep. Went to bed like a good boy that I am, and got my 5-ish hours of sleep (my usual amount), and was ready for some playoff action.

Man, I was pumped. We could clinch the series on home ice and reach the second round for the first time in 15 years. Okay, that's not quite like trying to win the first Stanley Cup since 1967, but hey, you gotta take it one round at a time, right?

We went up on Mo Rielly's slapper in the first but my excitement quickly gave way to frustration.

Boston tied on a fluky shot by Marchand after a face-off. Then Krug scored the go-ahead goal on the short side.

Both preventable shots/plays, in my opinion.

And we got absolutely creamed in the second period. Outplayed badly. Probably the worst period we've played this series, though Boston deserves some credit for playing such a tight period as well. They got another goal to go up 3-1, and it just felt like our fate was sealed.

So here we were, playing catch-up again. And with the Bruins content to play it safe, we pushed and pushed and got a goal back, courtesy of Matthews.

Auston has been spectacular in this series. 5 goals already to lead everyone in the series. Well, we could have used at least another one from him in this one.

We managed to find more space in the 3P after that goal but the Bruins didn't break. Had a couple of decent looks, though.

Hours after the game... I am still frustrated and I don't have much more to say...

I have to give props to Freddie Andersen, though. He kept us in the game in the first, robbing Bergeron from point-blank range to keep it a 2-0 game. This game could easily have gone out of hand if it hadn't been for Freddie. I can totally see this being a four-goal loss for us at least.

Well, the goalie did pretty much all he could. The guys in front of him have to win another one in Boston.

Done it twice this series. Can we do it a third time? It's a tall order, for sure, but I believe this is a far better team than the one that blew the 3P lead in last year's Game 7.

I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Honestly, I don't know if I can handle another Game 7 loss mentally. I am not that confident.

But the elation of a Game 7 victory? That's something I could get used to!

They don’t seem to have that killer instinct that’s needed to put teams away.
